It was July 15, a day which seemed to be another typical schoolday until we knew that it was the birthday of two of us. What I’d like to say is that, although it wasn’t my birthday, it is definitely a birthday to remember.
During the biology class, we got to know that it was Miss Sun’s birthday, and to show our gratitude and affection towards our beloved biology teacher, we decided to plan a surprise for her. On the one hand, some of us ordered a birthday cake. On the other hand, JJY and I worked on a birthday slide. Though only having two images with cartoon-style biology teachers surprisingly similar to Miss Sun and various congratulations we’ve come up with, it is valuable for the thoughts we’ve put into it. Then, we also planned to call out the congratulations as Miss Sun enters the classroom.
The big moment drew nearer and nearer with each tick of the clock, but problems arose. As JJY opened up the slide, he accidentally turned off the computer, and when we rebooted it, we found that it was quite overheated and was on the edge of an automatic shutdown. Making matters worse, the birthday cake took longer to arrive than expected, meaning that we might have to put off our plan. Thinking of these, a stressful atmosphere emerged.
At around 18:30, Miss Sun entered the classroom. Everything seemed normal. However, Zhang Jin suddenly asked mindlessly, “Where’s Peng Hao?” which almost ruined our entire plan. As it turns out, Peng Hao went to pick up the birthday cake we’d ordered. Luckily, he was able to return in time. As Miss Sun slid the blackboard open, Peng Hao walked in with firm footsteps. Then we shut off the lights, shouting out our well-rehearsed words of congratulation. All of us felt a surge of happiness flooding over us.
In birthdays, people make wishes, and Miss Sun’s wish is to make all of us admitted into good universities. Having that said, she blew out the only candle on the cake — none of us know how old Miss Sun actually is, but we wish her to stay 18 forever and become more and more beautiful. As Miss Sun distributed the cake, it suddenly came to our mind that today is Maoheng’s birthday as well. We sang the birthday song for him, and he also got his own piece of cake. Then, Miss Sun told us that she was moved as this was the first time that her students celebrated her birthday. She also added that, as an introvert, she failed to think of better words to describe her feelings. But for us, not a single word is needed from our beloved biology teacher. We all know that she loved this birthday.
The rest of the self-learning passed in the popping sound of cokes which Miss Sun bought to thank us and the sound of us flipping the pages of our books. A plain self-learning was turned into a day we’ll never ever forget. After all, this is — a birthday to remember.
